Season
1974
Spent the day processing mouse traps.
Left out one trap live consisting of about 40 big shrews and some small shrews.
April 10
Almost no snow during night. Nothing in traps.
The local shepherds, Pedro Garcia, calls this location Punta Perdida, mail address Majocruz. He asked if he could have a live trap so he could get mouse or rat blood to drink for medicinal purposes).
Left about 10 am, drove to Santa Rosa and Majocruz (where there was no gasoline), then to the acagria camp above Tarata. Saw one band of vicuñas at an agríe school place between Majocruz and Valota, and a "herd" of 4? rheas on Lampa de Cafayaco. Stopped and took photo of our legard camp near Challacralca. Tola camp as yaveta camp looked same as in 1971, Quetim and acagria camps definitely greener. Cactus not blooming, so no Patagona and few other hummingers.
April 11
Dried & packed, stopped to visit in Tarata, then to Tacna where we arrived in mid-afternoon. Rock camp about same as in 1971, but some green annuals at lower altitude than in 1971.
Unlike a month ago, the promenade on Avenida Bolivar in Tacna was full of English Sparrows and no no zorzitrichios. A few swatches of zortrichio seen elsewhere, but nothing like last month.
