PEARSON

Tree around houses. Some cultivation at 13,000 ft, and
at 12,500 trying to be quite furnish.
Stopped at a side road to mine at 13,000 ft in a
Huarque-like gorge. Floor is good green grassy turf,
sides dense bunch grass. A few small patches and
trees of brush. At 12,500 it was certainly too temperate
for pterocarpus, and here may not be bushy enough for
ardisium.
Pant about 15 traps in the a weedy-bunchy patch
near the stream, about half a bog under boulders etc. on
dense bunchy grass hillside, and another half log up a
steep narrow chute going to grass + sphaqnum.
This locality shall be known as 10 mi. NE Cerro de lasos,
aug.18
Traps held 10 abdonum, 1 long-tailed Oryzomys, 2 Metanymus,
1 Abdonum jelskii, and 1 Hezipromyz. No Phyllotris!
While picking up the traps I realized that there was no bare
ground - hence no Phyllotris.
Drove down the canyon to below Huarvica
where the other Cerro de Paso road comes in, at about
12,000 ft this are many kinds of trees and bunches, a few
orchid plants seen, and vegetable garden with collage,
lettuce, onions, plus geranium and roses. Although
some bushy areas, considerable grasscover. By Huarvica,
howerer, things are dryer again, with cactium plants on the
walls, and open brush. Especially between Huarvica and
the other road (10,500 ft.) there are bushy hillsides
with open stoney ground in between - looks good for
