Tonight, full moon among the small farms of the Chuberos Valley, a dozen or more dogs are barking and a flute and drummer are accompanying a bonfire in the courtyard of a small farm down below, the white-erased adobe sticks against the dark hills. Aug. 31 The road from Chucles to Tolavera - Andahuaylas goes up into rich country with sheep, cows, horses, no llamas. Saw no vicuñas or trumons. Then down again into the Encoflthos at Tolavera 9200ft. Spent a couple of hours in Tolavera taking pictures and waiting for the light to be right for the shot. It didn't clear up just before the right time. The three towns Tolavera, Andahuaylas, and I are all photogenic and only a few kilometers apart. The latter has a plaza that is closed, but sun was down before I got there. Drove off out of the valley into the rich at 12,800ft, and set traps among boulders by jacklight at 8pm. Sept. 1 Only 1 alborn Bolivian; not good. Temp. at 6 a.m. -4°C. Then across rich highlands and down down to Abacay, but with magnificent snow-capped peaks and deep valleys along the way. Then up again into rich and colored rain of cloud-draped Solcantry and Cordillera Blanca. Then down again towards Rito Apurimac. Camped at 8000ft. among 10-foot bushes of Schinus, thorn, opuntia,
