Then didn't leave again till 4:38. All day sunny & warm.
About every 10 minutes he powered or shuffled or stood up or
moved around. Returned 5:47. Still the usual fledgled week bird on
way out & back. One call while it was off nest.
Mary shot a 2/3-gram one at 5 p.m. yesterday. See
Len or Carl's notes for tonight.
april 2 Met #5 destroyed overnight; 3 crumpled eggs, lets
embryos gone. The nest made entirely of grass,
foundation built up of dry earth. Nest not well-shelter-
ed from above.
Left Pinejoker 7:45 to meet shuffled body come
town for 2 more nests. Guided by person age 4 & 2
nests:
Nest #6 - On hill SE of Pinejoker, 14,000ft. Nest
in grass clump next to tall grassbrugland. Most of slope
is bunch grass (airen) & some gold; thimbleweed,
and tall sagebrush. Some food. This (night) below
is all food. Carl was on nest at 7:20, and when I
came to watch at 10:15 / 10:55 a #? feeding about
35yds from nest. Saw a few giant chipmunk White-footed
around (noon it feeding seriously) it diverted conedball's
attention to a particular tall clump 6 yards N of nest S.
When I looked later I found there was vacant nest south small
shell fragments and the tough shell remainder of several
eygs.
Bird had not left at 2:00p.m., so returned to him.
at 2:50 bird was off nest. Watched until 4:30 and he had not
returned, so I left until 5 thinking [illegible] keeping
himself. At 5:00 Len was back on. Shot egg at 2:50.
