1945 J. P. PEARSON June 21 - From Berkeley to Monterey to Mariposa, cherries ripe and very first peaches. slept in gross - blue oak rolling hills west of Mariposa. numerous california ground squirrels and [fly catfish crossed out] kingbirds; coyotes) landed during night June 22 Yosemite Valley in morning, camped at Teraoya Lake in afternoon. Many deer along the road the road below Teraoya and at teraoya. also saw 3 marmots (1 at Teraoya), california and Beldings Ground Squirrels, chipmunks, 1 coony at close range at Teraoya. June 23. Drove to Soda Springs and parked north toward Young Lake. The last half mile of the trail was blocked by snow - drifts, so camped on a ridge (10,000 ft.) west of Rogged Peak among Lodgepole Pines. Mountain Hemlocks and White Pine and Red Fir nearby, also two Douglas Squirrels on this ridge. TH. June 24 Decided to park back to Dog Lake to camp. Many deer. Many fishermen and mosquitoes around Dog Lake (and Ground Squirrels) so camped on the hillside north of the east end of the lake. Pine Lodgepole Pines that had been burned over many years earlier, a few mosquitoes at camp but they disappeared before dark.
