O. P. PEARSON 1949 21 Nov. 15 Left 3:15 p.m. north Anita et al. for Vallejo marshes. Set Sherman until dark along left side of Wood run and set along edge of Salicornia 2-3 miles NW of Vallejo. Purpose to catch skunks for salivary glands. I set 90 baited with walnuts (40 in grass + weeds, 50 in Salicornia and along Baccharis edge quit) and Anita 40 baited with pecans. Night cold, mostly clear. Heavy dew. By 9 p.m. Anita had 2 Zoris sinuosa, 2 Reithra, and 1 Microtina and I had 6 L. sinuosa + a complete of Mus Nov. 16 Between us 7 more sinuosa & about 7 Mus. 2 of the 15 sinuosa escaped overnight from makeshift cages. all the birds over still alive 6 p.m. Dew had frozen on one or more traps. all spotted 2 of the sinuosa came from the Salicornia or its edges. Other two from grassy-weedy line. Best sets seemed to be not quite flat Salicornia but elevated portions such as along the Baccharis edge or around a stump or log lying out in the marsh. Not much sign of Microtina. Nov. 24 Left 1:30 p.m. with Anita et al. for Grizzly Island. Put 50 Sherman baited with walnuts in low grass - weed (snortweed?) and Anita put 30. Then I put 34 Muscum Specials + 25 Sherman baited with walnuts along a choke on the edge of tule. Anita put 20 Muscum Specials here. Started catching house
