O. P. PEARSON Pero Peromyscus maniculatus aug. 10 Has been the most abundant mammal so far, but has not been caught in great numbers. Ulquitos, however, from pine-jun grove to Sierks marsh. aug 12 Most caught so far have been immature, some probably out of the nest less than a week. aug 14 Have caught 3 around woodrat nests in last few days. aug 20 In 50 traps at French camp, 3100 ft; caught 12 overnight. At least 6 of them between 7:30 and 9:30 in the first 10 trips of the line. No really young ones. One late preg. ♀. Some were caught in pure Douglas fir, some in grass-broken, most along seep above spring. Also at holea poked into mole tunnels in Doug fir. aug 21 5 more in 50 traps. One of them quite small + grey. at 7:30 p.m. (Myotis yumanensis time) one Pero emerged from smooth round hole in bare story slope on edge of camp and ran across road. He had only ½ inch tail - probably one Gullion released from traps aug 26 Peromyscus is very abundant here in the French Camp region. Litter in all habitats to the extent of about 10-20%. catch the first night. Very few on subsequent nights. Not many really young ones. My impression is that these are paler than the Big Sur camp specimens.
