O. P. PEARSON 1949 Anna hummingbird Sept. 12 Mule was flying and feeding when I went into court dt. L58 at 5:55 p.m. Perched in [illegible] at east end until 6:05 when another hummer flying flew nearby. First one took off and flew to center of court and fed + perched alternately until it returned to same place on same limb of elder? at 6:10. Watched until 6:50 (almost dark) but no further flights. Sept. 13 Returned quietly at 3:00 A.M. & hummer was at same place, Drafted him. He gave a few complaining squealer but was unable to fly. Felt slightly warm to the touch. Temp. outside 15°C. Put him on floor of cage and brought him inside immediately to temp. 21°. Was clearly unable to fly. First flight 3:11. Appeared normal at 7 a.m.
