O. P. PEARSON 1949 7 Jacklighted along the road and shot one brush rabbit. Saw nothing else. Aug 20 6 more Peromyscus in my line and 1 Mustela. Hunted down the road for about a half mile and saw many chipmunks; shot 1. Deer tracks in road, and ? tracks? Left traps in same place and set 5 traps for mole in Douglas fir. Drove after supper to the Fullwood Ranch (about 2 miles east and 1 mile down toward Redwood Creek). Missed house and farm but no bats or obvious droppings. A water tank we hoped would attract bats at dusk but saw only 2 or 3 and were unable to net or shoot any of them. Jacklighted 2 Mustelas near spring. Shot 1. Aug 21 1 Clethrionomys, 5 Peromyscus, and 1 Vespertilio sp. (at an opening in mole tunnel). Drove Miller to creek at 7 a.m. and stopped at about 15 hollow trees on way back. No bats. 3 very suitable buildings at Sage Prairie but no bats. Many chipmunks, ground squirrels. Also stopped at several other barns but no signs of bats. At Lyons Ranch Mrs. Lyons said she has seen numerous bats flying, but mostly later in the year. She remembered another group of people collecting birds + mammal here many years ago. Put out about 20 more Museum speckle among the moss-covered rocks in Pinyon fir where Clethrionomys was caught. One bat seen at late dusk; large, straight flight. Jacklighted west along road. Shot at certain carnivore ? eyes
