P. PEARSON 1949 65 9 p.m., which is long after dark, a few bats flew at dusk. June 14 Drove east on the Lawrenceville road to look at old buildings on the topo sheet, particularly Grace Lake, Lingley cabin, and Cora & Ward Ranch. Much bad road, no bats, and in fact, practically no remains of cabins at 1st place. Lunch at Cora & Ward Ranch, then started home. Home midnight. June 29 Left 2:30 p.m. with Anita, Mary, et al. for Acton Springs. Arrived 5. Looked in all known tunnels at Acton Mines but found only 1 ♂ Cory [in Tunnel 6 opposite of June 4]. Also found the tunnel 7 mentioned by the forelock roller. It is in the gulch on the north side about 300 yds downstream from No. 6, has considerable water in it. Also another tunnel at the head of the canyon just below the owner's house. Then looked over kitchen at Acton Springs and there was the entire colony, despite noisy dish-washing for 80 guests down below. We left them undisturbed, had supper, and returned before 8. Many Cory left before dark, but observations were confused by many other bats emerging from behind the chimney (creek between chimney & house). Emergences slowed considerably about 8:15, and Anita & Mary went into attic about 8:30. Some adult Cory and many young Cory present, some of the latter flying. Considerable traffic in and out of
