June 4 Left 4:30 p.m. with Anita, Mervy Koford, et al. for Aetra Mines.
arrived ca. 7 p.m., talked with Mr. Hertz (the mine owner), and
looked in various tunnels for the banded bats. They had moved
in toto to a tunnel about 100 yards up the hill to the north
of the 2 shafts by the [illegible] turn in the road, Didn't check them
other than shining light on them briefly from a distance
of 15 ft. Effored for more tunnels till dusk. Found one
about 1/2 mile N. by road in which a Myotis evotis & was
flying. Saw numerous bats flying at dusk, one small species quite early.
(1) Called by me West Tunnel. Straight, dry, caved in after about 100 ft. Has date
can be seen from road.
