P. PEARSON 1948 Sheep Sept 9. Saw 5 in a side canyon of our valley (Big Arab). They let me get to within about 100 yds of them (they were in a steep canyon under oaks) then ran off uphill. The ranch hands say there are still about 2000 "wild" sheep in the northwest part of the island. They claim they have killed about 20,000. Sept 12 Saw a family of 4 resting under a large oak in early afternoon. They let me come within 35 yards of them, ran off a little way, then stood at me, one of the ewes hollering at me several times. There was a ram, 2 ewes, and a large lamb Sept 13 Saw a pair of rams. The sheep seem to nap in the shade of big dense oaks during the hot part of the day
