P. PEARSON 1948 25 even a few dogs. No definite damaging however, Intalbo wanted the sheep killed yesterday, [illegible] saw signs of their being devoured by ravens, bald eagles and wild hogs. He even saw two hogs, Went up near the radio station (unoccupied) to set traps in crossed out: around the late afternoon, put out 100 mouse traps around opuntia islands in the grass, across a weedy arroyo (not met), [illegible] in open grass, and up a grassy gulch. Cool and foggy at darks. Also 2 foot traps in trail on edge of oak park. Safest 7 Raw and foggy in a.m. Peromyscus in each of the places mentioned above, most of all in swamps (14 traps) and around opuntia. 15 Peru all told (114 traps). No jays. all grown Perus in breeding condition, both ? and ?, Many returned today and will be back tomorrow for a short stay. Probably mean no jeep for us after tomorrow. Picked up the foot traps on the ridge and in the canyon west of campo. Put 100 traps around the barn, feed house etc. at the Stanton Ranch Hydro, as well as along the stream below the ranch. The latter in an attempt for shrews, but saw no holes or tunnels in the grassy- herbaceous--rocky stream border. Also 3 foot traps in the vineyard and looked for bats in various of the ranch buildings. So far haven't found any predators on Peromyscus. Foot + shrews stomachs + droppings are hairless and have seen no owls. Ranch hands say they have seen "monkey-faced" owls, but these can't be our
