P. PEARSON 1948 24 bought for killing sheep at a range of 50 to 400 yds. They undoubtedly shot tens of thousands sheep. Sept 5 at 6:15 a.m. date, shortly after dawn, saw a mygotta crawling going to roost on the wall of the house only 10 feet from my sleeping dog, and another a few minutes later, both went into the cracks between the trim around the windows and the clockboards. Later I removed 7 from such places around the house. No fliers or flyers, only 1 Pero, although not many traps set. Pete, who has worked on the island for 47 yrs, says the island will support 2000 steers. This figure is probably for Stanton's end of it. The gardener Wilkinson shot 5 sheep about 1 1/2 miles where this morning. We had the hindquarters of one for dinner... slightly coarser than domestic dry leg of lamb, slightly gamier (not as lamby). No goats on the island. Strong bat noises at dusk again across the stock tanks + No bats come early (perhaps I caught all the early fliers this a.m.) Pete said water pipes freeze up during the winter at Ranch H d g t r a, but not at Presidio Harbor or Christy's Sept. 6 Two more mygottas in our house, both males. Set 14 muscurra speculas in the trap houses and scipens - If there are any shrews on the island, they should be there for it is damp and humery with lots of sowbugs, beetles, and
