the island looks large and very mountainous, hardly seeing to have flat space enough for a landing strip. Dept 2 went jeeping to the west end of the island (Christy's Ranch) and airport. Again noticed how it is really hot and seemingly even drier up in the hills. Saw one rather extensive stand of pine on a north slope just as you drop down toward the airport. Many seedlings, floor rather dry and open, general terrain not greatly different than rest of island that we have seen: oate, oak, opuntia, manguito, rockwhis, mtn. mahogany. Interesting group of buildings at Christy Beach: barn, hen coops, stone dwellings, etc. A couple of 2 corporations in one body, and a snake on the ridge top of other over hen coops Nice sandy beach below Christy Ranch with foot tracks. Took following pictures: Super xx #8 - pine slope, looking east. Slope on left (south facing) with no pines, mostly grass & opuntia (overgrown) #9 - pine slope + opposite slope looking east (from further away, #10 - north side of central valley going down to Christy, opuntia and Bacchus in foreground #11 - Pitillo in jeep #12 - north side of central valley between main ranch and the divide to Christy, looking west. Manguito in foreground. Cult film - same as above. Trips overnight caught one Peru, but not many set and hatched
