Childs 1959 Ransifer 22 June Pitneza River, Cape Sabine, Alaska about 60 in several bands seen in area. 23 June about 25 mean Wolverine Mt. 24 June about 400 in three bands were near Camp this morning with north wind. Barker got movies. No calves seen in any of the herds to date. 25 June about 1500 scattered from Cairn Mt to Mount Ridge. Two calves seen. Main concentration was along Willar Creek. Mostly rest & feeding. I collected a yearly 8" across river from Tent. All marble flies gone and relatively few holes or scars seen. 26 June About 1/2 (700) of yesterdays herd still around. They bed down on the warm south facing slopes. 27 June about 30 seen headed west, quartering the wind 28 June None seen today. 4 July about 10 east of Willar Creek 10 July Pitneza River, 16 mi St Cape Sabine Alaska Tracks were come in and for this. There were not enough however to indicate passage of a big herd inland. Shelter reported seeing about a dozen groups of caribou on the trip down. The last group numbered 100 - 300. Those were all on the plain. Perhaps "the herd" did not head as far north with this year. 12 July Wainwright, Alaska Several hushed seen inland near site recently.
