30 may Patwagea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska
Three small heads of 20, 10, 15, and 10.
were seen in distance back of study area.
They were in winter coat and appeared
white
31 May 5 seen at far end of mountain. Wind
changed to south.
1 Jun Three ran along river's edge across from
tent as Pete + I had our morning's
constitutional. 2 small bands seen on
mountain
2 Jun 5 seen on ridge up river.
3 June 6 were specked by grizzly and ran to
West Marsh. We expected to find them near
the cabin but they saw us first. Others
were on the mountain.
Pete picked up a Reindeer antler
which he identified by size (9 gross)
and the fact that parts had been
caved off, he said, "to make it easier
to lasso".
4 June 8 on caribou Mt. and 4 across river, I
walked to Wolverine Mt. and then across
at Cantor Mt. in the p.m. The tussacks were
larger whitin than at Lone Marsh
but the effect of antlered caribou
use of the vegetation in between
was obvious. There was little.
