24 June Pitmegecal River, Cape Saline, Alaska
Many pairs nesting. See Maker's notes.
One pair behind tent, apparently territory
but not nesting. 1815 threw a minotaur
carcass & one of the above pair and it flew
it immediately. It then carried it to
the far end of the bar and called
once, loudly, as if for mate. A Pomarine
came down river and the long tail
flew up & protected the meat while
the pomarine veered off. The other
long tail arrived and they both
ate & tugged at the morsel for
about 5 minutes. Then they both
flew to the river and washed their
bills and drank considerable water
26 June Jaegers are sardily graphis regularly now. Several
traps of mice gone per line per run,
28 June Nest near T3-7.0 not hatched but odd shaped egg
appeared cracked.
29 June Koranda reported odd-shaped egg gave
30 June Sent a 1st year bird, with adult on bluff.
It had grey collar and speckled tail
coverts. It was smaller than adult and
lacked control pectrices.
July Nest across stream, nest fenced in had
me chick and the other egg piped,
adult, hit me in the head.
