CHILD'S 1951 CARIBOU Rangifer arcticus July 16 Point Barrow, Alaska One big buck was seen running across 88 with its mouth open. A short while later Two men in a vessel shot another off to the south which we saw later. It was a 7 in velvet with no palmation on the antlers; a very small animal. It is a pity that such killing goes on when the numbers of these animals are so reduced. Aug 7 East Omand, 110 mi SSE Barrow, Alaska During the week at this locality we did not see any of these animals and only old scat & traps. At the lake there were four skins near the wind sock which I took to have been discarded by Arcon men who found out that they were illegal.
