Childs 1958 Vrous Moribilis 31 May Patmegea Cave, Cape Sabine Alaska while working near camp, Pete spotted a bear on the ice just this side of the cabin. It was so light that he thought it was a young Polar Bear. We got guns and headed that way. The bear, however was headed our way along the bluff so all we had to do was wait in its path. It came over a rise at about 100' and saw us and stopped. Pete shot it in the chest. It ran about 200' and died. It was a male with the following measurements 1680-160-290-120. Its struggle was amazed with grease of some kind and in its stomach were found one [illegible] oconum, a fish gill fillet, and about 2 fistfuls of Caribou hair. The bear had almost no subcutaneous fat. 3 June Watched some Caribou or far mountain spook and run to West Marsh. 10 mins later a bear came over Owl Ridge headed straight for the river. He turned and went along T2 for a few yards and then headed west in a hurry. We were ready on the river bluff but no scent on the trap line @ called him off! [illegible] trap line could not find ten tracks
