Childs 1958 J. Longicandino 2 4 June Pitnaye River, Cape Sabine, Alaska Spotted on the Owl Mound while the G anchored the long tail feathers upward. The whole performance lasted at least 30 seconds. It was not the quick 'hiss' of passing. The & then flew 200' to a pond and appeared to eat insects or moss. There was a nervous old squaw on the pond (2017?) A minute or so later the G's flew to the & and they greeted one another with a short call and a posturing, with tail raised 45°. The & then flew, circling the pond (looking for old squaw nest?) and landed 40' away from & and started to feed. They were feeding less than 100' away from the destroyed nest of longspurs for 2 or 3 first canoes. June Found nest up on a mound in the same area on West Marsh where a pair successfully nested last year. The & acted like she had a nest, scolding me as I searched, but then she went right back to her nest and sat so I walked right to it. Several flocks of 5-7 moved west today. 12 June I believe the nest in West Marsh is destroyed. Could not find it today. 18 June Could not find nest near Plot 1. Believe it gave also.
