CITILDS 1951 Wolf Canis lupus Aug 5 East Ammalik, 110 mi. SSE Barrow, Alaska Large canid tracks have been seen throughout the camp and along the streams, so that it was not too surprising to see the animal along the stream at the east of camp. We were cutting across a meander so he did not see or hear us until we were about 100 yds away. He jumped up the bank & stopped on the bluff and looked at us so that I had time to load a ball shot into the 16 gauge but the shot went high. The wolf ran and was across the next ox-bar before we got over the rise.
