M. oecoramus
29 June Pithnezea River, Cape Saling Alaska
To be least Weasel.
4 July Completed runway transects 1-8 in a.m. Took
465 m 13 days!
3 July Found remains of dead Minotus in 4 out of 9 nests
examined, maker claims this typical least
weasel activity but admits possibility of cannibalism.
On walk to Wolverine Mt. along Willow Creek wrote
activity 4 nests were common. Upon return saw tender
an a group of 6 and several other single animals
live among tussocks.
12 July Pithnezea River, near SE Sage Sabine, Alaska
Voles continue to be abundant here although
there was very little sign at 16 min
Tg + Tc. My impression is that there is
not much difference in number of
runway & winter cutting, etc than
last year. Predators are not abundant.
I have seen only 3 pairs of long-tail Jaeger,
and one Parasitic pair, a Rush-ley
pair is resident across the river. Saw
one 9 March Hawk today.
23 July Meads Lion Coal Mine, Alaska
So far more have been taken. Scoty on the first
Terrace where they were abundant in 1955
showed almost no sign. The usual cutting
sedges so typical of this species was not
observed.
