Childs 1957 M. minnes 3. 23 July Pitzega River, 12 mi SE Cape Sabine, Alaska The same runway. A depression between Trussards, up on the hill we caught a few animals, again both species. In a well developed patch 50'x200' of birch 16" tall about 90 traps failed to yield any min although it looked awsome. If Clethrum occurs anywhere in this area it should have been found in this stuff with the Clethrum sort of dry moss for a good cover. While taking our pictures of a magnificent floral display, I heard the song of The Singing Vole and nearly caught one by hand and would of if it hadn't bitten me! 24 July Pitzega River, 12 mi SE Cape Sabine, Alaska Another good catch of min here, 8 Mn + 3 Mre. The flat areas of Muddy Wet Meadow are vegetated like the areas near the lava Ranges. The grasses and sedges are widely exposed : not providing much food or cover. The SW facing hillsides still have well developed shrubs on them providing the cover min seems to need. Pitzega River, 12 miles SE Cape Sabine, Alaska Minnes habitat as I see it min's out about there, a good place to camp and study next year.
