Childs 1963 Lemmus trimmeronotus 16 June Wainwright, Alaska Winter sign patchy but in some places intense. Trapping yielded 130 first run. Predatory scarce 18 June Catch at night has been mild in trap lines. Weather has been clear sunny & warm. Is there a relationship here? 5 July Barrow, Alaska After fair success in June, it is not always impossible to find lemmings anyway. See journal for comment by Mullen and Eskimo catch 12 July Bernard River, Banks Island, NWT, Canada Mullen has taken me in a month's time. They appear common in owl pellets, so this may be just a bad year. 11 July Duvivis, NWT, Canada Caught one along runway very near a [illegible] 20 July Broavik Lake. Lemming sign is the best here of anywhere in the Barrow area. 11 August Wainwright, Alaska There has been a considerable increase since the early run — 30, +34 in may two Runways all cuttings are everywhere in the Carry & Euphron between polygons. Predict a high year next year.
