Childs 1958 Lemnus 1. 19 May Barrow, Alaska Map reported a local lemnus high last October south of Beard Bay. Lemnus were seen by some of the Lab Eskimos in number running on the surface as well as dead lemnus on the surface. Needless to say it did not occur to them to collect a few hundred. The area included in this was about 16 miles long and 5 miles wide. Snow was late and light in early Nov. there was a heavy freeze and village Eskimos passing through after it reported dead lemnus on the surface. At Barrow snow is deep on the ridge and central marshes. Snow is almost to the top of the enclosures and not particularly collected there over other areas. Thus the depth is slightly less than 3 ft. Kribi through the snow & the surface one finds a heavy layer of ice which should have marked for a poor winter for mice I predict another low year lease.
