Lemmus
Aug 6 Point Barrow, Alaska
water has receded and there is a
good growth of grass. This appears to
be a dry year. Almost no rain so
far. I do not see why there is this
growth in some of these flooded
areas and little growth in others
appearing identical. Regardless,
Lemmus appears to act like its
murkotin ancestors (relation)
in more temperate areas where
they require wetness and cover.
On mine endeavors I have taken
Fory (my dog) with me and he has
been very helpful in turning up
specimens. This mouse is good and
when he starts to dig there is always
a Lemmus present. The dug out 2
pits with 5+6 young respectively.
The possibility of running a dog transit
Census could have some merit, at
least with a woman!
On the basis of weights (oven dry) of
sub total pellets and density of pellets
in high polygon, there is 18,112,500
pellets/acre and 1208 lbs/acre.
Figures on back of page.
