Childs 1957 Spermophilus 2. 26 July Citrongea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska after supper Merle went out and saw 2 squirrels on the gravel bar in front of The tent. He called me and when I went out, they were nowhere to be seen. He pointed to the spot and we walked over and Merle stepped on the adult who ran to the mud near the tent and escaped. The other, an immature, still stayed frozen at the spot with rear end towards us and it took several seconds to pick it out from the rocks surrounding it. We finally tired it out and Merle got it and made a flat skin for his parka out of it. 12 Aug Three Baranati Jacoys were making passes at squirrels at the upper end of the bar. Wishful thinking on their part. Solomon has shot 4 for skins of squirrels that have one down in the bar. 16 Aug There are still active.
