The other day I watched one run along the opposite shore for a ¼ min. apparently it knew when it was going. There are several squirrels on a small island apart from cabin. 29 jun One still present above falcon nest. 10 July a few seen along lithoods and bluff many at Peters Creek — shot one gang of the year. 19 July Camp A. Patnega River, St. Elieze Solim, Alaska Common along the edge of the bluffs and along the rivers. Nearly full grown young are out. Collected one immature. 23 July There have been squirrels living above all hawk nests. Selection must be rigorous to allow these barnacules to survive. Their partially eaten putrid squirrels were found in the first Duck Hawk nest.
