Gil & I were dragging LE when we ran
into a flock of about 10 of these. Went
back & got the guns + proceeded to take 5 of
them. After shooting the 12th, the rest of them
milled around me so it was duck soup.
One came so close that I could have got
it with the pistol but that was back in ARL

July 17 One light phase bird swooped down on one

July 18 Setzer brought in 6 of these & one Parasitic
from East Ounalik. He estimated 35 in the
area. Parasitic nesting.
Aug. 7 East Ounalik, 110mi SSE Barrow, Alaska
When we first arrived at this locality the number
of this species about equalled that of parasites
By now, however, there are hardly any to
be seen now and both species are rare.
I was unable to get close enough to shoot
any although the first few nights they
woke me up with their calling & chasing
pulb close to camp
