CHILD 1951 SOVEX June 16 Point Barrow, Alaska Rae found a mummified skeleton of one in the area of ARL. Aug 7 East Ommalik, 110 mi SSE Barrow, Alaska We found a mazyst riddled specimen in one of the traps we lost the first day. Even though 5 days had elapsed, the skin had only started to slip in the head and rump regions. The coloration was unique for any shrew I've ever seen, the head being a chocolate brown and breaking sharply into the usual mouse grey in the face and ventral surface. It was trapped along the edge of the river to the north of Camp [illegible] willows [illegible] mushy area River
