Aug 7 East Ommalik, 110 mi SSE Barrow, Alaska
We found a mazyst riddled specimen in one
of the traps we lost the first day. Even though
5 days had elapsed, the skin had only started to
slip in the head and rump regions. The coloration
was unique for any shrew I've ever seen, the
head being a chocolate brown and breaking
sharply into the usual mouse grey in the face
and ventral surface. It was trapped along the
edge of the river to the north of Camp
