of 9
July 21 Point Barrow, Alaska
1830 no sign of ♀.
1842 3 Phalaropes fly over nest.
1900- still no ♀ - Checked nest - Squeaking had not
effect on young. hand close to nest - still negative.
Actually touched young - at first no response,
finally I gaped - She did not. - Extra supra
seemed flexible in comparison to some other birds
1905- Snowy Owl sitting on mound to west of 1st flag
- Complete absence of Longspur & the erratic action of the
♀, would seem to invalidate any data derived from
this run.
1907- Snowy Owl's back - dark in color - gray? Young bird?
1915- Still no ♀ longspur - Snowy Owl still sitting.
1930- no ♀. Has she left for good? With temperatures
falling, cold alone (lack of food) could kill off young
in matter of hours.
1931 ♀ back!! landed to east of nest - stood over nest flicking
for 30 sec. before starting to feed. Tail feathers up/down while feeding. Settled down on nest -
Just impossible to make ♀ out on nest. When I
approached, did not seem to have much food in
bill.
1950 ♀ still on nest - Can't make her out at
all while sitting. Standing - picked back of
head sometimes visible.
1953- ♀ flew off - towards marshland
2015- ♀ still gone
2024- R.B. Sandpiper flew over
