Childs 1957 Stercorarius parasiticus June 15 Pitmegea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska. Seen, one a dark phase. June 17 Two dark phase birds feeding or nest scraps at edge of bar. I do not recall ever seeing a pair of dark phase birds together before. June 18 See S. longicandus 22 June The jaeger picture changes from day to day, No pomarins seen for several days. Parasiticus wanders along river and over marshes but does not appear to be settling. A few long tails may be territorial. 27 June Saw a pair of dark phase birds. Not many of them left around here now. 5 July Only an occasional bird seen now. Just one today. 9 July Regular at garbage during bad weather. 16 July This species is common along the river near camp attracted by our garbage. I don't believe they go much farther up the river. Most of them are dark phase birds but there is a great variation in intensity of color, some looking like crow and others quite light. They do not come as close to the tent as longicandus. 19 July Cape H. Pitmegea River, near Cape Sabine, Alaska a few scattered individuals passing thru the area.
