Palmer 1937 Itinerary Jan 8th Rainbow, San Diego C. Contd. Decided to make another try for the Aguanga country so packed up and left. Drove north over the Red Mountain grade & looking east could see nothing but rain & very black clouds, altho it is clear here. So decided not to try it. Instead set gopher traps, Zone 5SE Temecula, 1025 ft., Riverside Co., Calif., at the side of the highway along the edge of a field formerly cultivated thus I found many fresh mounds in the heavy black soil which is almost adobe. Set 17 sets of Macabee traps there. In the evening put out 45 gnr size mouse traps in a wash along the side of the creek that here flows toward Temecula. Traps set 15-20 steps apart on sandy ground with scattered Opuntia and Cholla cactus and scattered bushes of Artemisia occidentalis and Chrysothamnus. Then returned to Rainbow and stayed again at the auto camp.
