contd. common in the damp places.
Johnson shot 2 Yellow-Throats which are
quite common around here. He reports
seeing Bank Swallows and a Kingfisher.
Birds seen this A.M.: Yellow-Throat, Song
Sparrow, Ash-Throated Flycatcher, Lewis
Woodpecker, Brewer Blackbird, Redwing
Blackbird, Crow, Western Tanager, Meadow
Lark, Lazuli Bunting, Long-tailed Chat,
Green Heron, Red-Shafted Slicker.
Set the 4th mole trap in the evening.
May 25
Caught 1 Scapanus latimanus in 4
mole traps. Reset 1 trap in nursery ridge.
Near birds seen around camp: Yellow,
Warbler, in willows; Downy Woodpecker,
in willows; Willow Goldfinch, in willows;
Bullock Oriole, in cottonwoods; Gull (sp?);
along the river; Black-Crowned Night Heron,
flying down river. Found a Yellow-Throat
nest in Johnson-grass about 4 ft. tall.
In P.M. set 25 mouse traps around
the dry flat near camp. This is hard
baked adobe covered with dry foxtail
mouse
grasses. 5 mmentraps were set around
in deep grass by a small pool. Shot-
