Open dry fields: Brewer Blackbird, Western
Kingbird (Fences), Meadowlark, Lark
Sparrow, Crow, Horned Lark. Wet Meadow:
Redwing Blackbird, Killdeer. Mixed Garry
Oak (small) and Juniper: Western Bluebird,
Plain Titmouse, Solmie Warbler, Calif.
Quail. Rocky Cliff: Rock Wren, Violet-green
Swallow, Red-tailed Hawk, Canyon Wren
(Heard only) Flying over: Buzzard.
Birds seen on Grovenest Mt in conifers:
Hairy Woodpecker, Red-breasted Nuthatch,
Steller Jay, Mountain Chickadee.
Broke camp and drove via Montague,
crossed Yreka, and Shasta Canyon to Hornbrook
where we camped about 4 P.M. at the mouth
of Cottonwood Creek near the Klamath River.
Set 2 mole traps in surface runways of
mole.

May 24 One of the mole traps was sprung but
failed to catch the mole. Set another
mole trap in a fresh runway. Hunted
around for gopher workings but could
