Little Shasta River, 3000 ft.
The "ant" and failed to get it. Saw a number of Woodrat nests along the creek bottom and saw several mole mounds in a damp meadow. Found a Gopher snake in The tent when I returned.
In the P.M. hunted along The banks of the stream and found a large Bufo and caught a small Rana of which I have seen several.
S. Base Table Rock, 3400 ft., 10 mi. E Montague, Siskiyou Co., Calif.
Johnson looked at my steel sets for Marmot and found one young one in a trap in a runway. The traps near burrow mouths had not been disturbed.

Got up early and drove with Johnson up the road that goes to Butte Valley following along Little Shasta River on the N slope of Goose Nest Mt. About 6 mi. by road, E of camp star and shot at a Chickaree (Sciurus douglasii) as it was climbing up a Douglas Fir. Stopped at a rock slide where we hoped to get Coyes but none were heard or seen. After about 45 min. moved down to another rock
