Palmer 1935 Steinway Little Shasta River, 3000 ft., 10 mi. E Montague, Siskiyou Co. Calif. May 20. New birds seen in camp this morning: Wood Pewee?, Western Kingbird, California Jay (flyingover), Black-headed Grosbeak, Ash- Throated Flycatcher. In the late afternoon went up the N. side of Table Rock which is about 1/2 mi. from camp. From the valley level, it rises sharply. The slope covered with Juniperus occidentalis, small Pinus ponderosa and dwarf Quercus garryana. Between the trees it is dry and rocky with a sparse growth of annual grasses (Andium and Bromus) and some Erodium. Table Rock is flat topped and rock. Has steep sides 50-75 ft. high. somewhat as in the sketch. The cliffs run nearly E and W in the longest direction, the rock being much narrower N and S. On the S side there is a bench about 300 yds. wide with another steep cliff at its side. S<--- --->N Martini Meadow. where we got marmots. There is some soil on top of the rocks and scattered Junipers and various grasses.
