Palmer 1935 January May 19 cont'd. S. Base of Table Rock Birds seen or heard on this trip after Woodchucks: Canyon Wren, heard singing from the high cliffs of Table Rock on the way over; couldn't locate it. Looked and listened for it on way back but was not seen or heard again. Brewer Blackbird - common in the open fields. Redwing Blackbird - common in the wet meadows. Meadowlark - common in open fields. Killdeer - in wet meadow. Violet-green Swallow - many seen around Table Rock Little Shasta River, 3000 ft., 10 mi. E Montague, Siskiyou Co., Calif. Made camp at this place about noon. Saw Vigors Bewick wren carrying nest material to a hole in a dead willow stub about 6± ft. from the ground. The hole was about 1¼" in diameter. Birds are common around camp. This afternoon saw Yellow Warbler, Golden-ringed Warbler, Western Tanager, Lewis's Woodpecker, Crow, California Gnatcatcher, Lazuli Bunting, Hairy Woodpecker, Meadowlark all in or very near camp. Heard: Song Sparrow, Longtailed Chat and Bullock Oriole. Saw Douglas Ground Squirrel in a rock pile near camp.
