Palmer 1935 January May 19. Little Shasta River, 2900 ft., 8 mi. E Montague, Siskiyou Co., Calif. Got up early and hunted along the banks of the river in willows and wild rose bushes. Knew I shot what I think is a Willow Thrush, and saw one other. Other birds seen here were: Brewer Blackbird, Long-tailed Chat, Vignais Bewick's Wren (nesting), Song Sparrow, Yellow Warbler, Greenbacked Goldfinch, Redwing Blackbird, California Quail, Western Tanager. Johnson picked me up and we drove E to D. C. Shelley's ranch where we left the truck and hiked around Table Rock to hunt woodchucks. S. Base Table Rock, 3400 ft., 10 mi. E Montague Siskiyou Co., Calif. Looked around the upper part of Table Rock, but found no sign of woodchucks. Then went down into the meadow to the S and there found marmots very numerous in the rock-piles in the meadow. I saw at least 15 (many probably young) in 3 small rock piles and shot 2 (both juv.). Returned to Shelley's a little before noon and got permission from him to camp.
