Aug. 6 contd. birds only 3-4 inches long.
Aug. 7 This A.M. about 5:30 saw 2 Blue Herons
fly over, and land by the river. We
sneaked up but found only 1 which
Johnson shot. Shot a Calif. Jay and a
White-breasted Nuthatch in the Cottonwood
over our tent.
Aug. 8 From 5:30-7:30 A.M., hunted through the corn
field and large Valley Oaks and up along the
river. Shot 1 Bushtit from a flock of 15+ that
were foraging in a large Valley Oak. In the oaks,
also saw Calif. Woodpecker, Yellow-billed Magpie
Linnet, Brown Towhee, Black-headed Gros-
beak, Calif. Jay and White-breasted Nuthatch.
Shot at a Great Blue Heron as it flew over
goning down the river. Shot 1 White-breasted
Nuthatch and 1 Calif. Jay in Cottonwoods
along the river. There also saw Mourning
Dove, Lark Sparrow, Linnet, Plain Tit-
mouse and Brown Towhee. Shot 1 Say.
Phoebe as it perched on a low bush in
the dry river bottom. Along there, saw
also Calif. Quail, Bewick Wren, Plain
Titmouse, Brown Towhee, Brewer Blackbird,
Black Phoebe, Dove. Saw Meadowlark,
Sparrow Hawk and Flicker fly over.
