Aug.4 (emi.) ESE San Benito (contd.)
contd. out of a flock of 9+ that perched in the cottonwood under which we are camped.
This A.M.. again saw a Great Blue Heron flying over and saw the Kingfisher fly over camp upstream-
Aug.5. This A.M. from 5:30-8 hunted thru the corn patch w/o camp around the large Valley Oaks. Shot 2 White-breasted Nutatches then took a shot at a Yellow billed Magpie as it perched in the top of one of the oaks. Then hunted down by the old Columbus School house where I shot a plain Fitmouse as it hopped about on the ground near the river. Shot a Shrike as it perched on a fence post in the dry, sandy part of the river bottom. Shot 2 Linnet and 1 Lark Sparrow from dead branches in the top of a cottonwood.
Johnson brought in a Fairy Wood-pecker and a Meadowlark. The Fairy- pecker is the first I've seen here
Saw the Blue Herons fly over again this evening.
