Palmer 1936 Itinerary June, ESE San Benito, S.B.Co.. (Cont'd) July 29 cont'd. At camp, shot 2 Plain Jnnowas and 1 White-breasted Nuthatch in the big cotton-woods. July 30. Hunted down the river about 1/2 mi this A.M. Shot: 2 Nuttall Woodpeckers in Cottonwood trees; 2 Black Phoebe, 1 in willows and 1 on a fence by an old barn; 1 Lark Sparrow, one of many seen perched in dead Cottonwood; 1 Rock Wren by cut bank 6-8 ft. high; 1 Cassin Kingbird, first seen flying upstream but shot after it perched in Valley Oak about 25 ft. off the ground. Two birds seen today include: Cooper Hawk, 2 seen beating over the low bushes in the river bottom; Kingfisher, 2 seen darting into the water, perched, or flying along stream too wary to approach for a shot. July 31. Hunted this A.M. from 10-12 M. down the river. Shot: 2 Say Phoebe, 1 perched on fence over water, The other perched in low bushes in the dry creek bottom; 1 Black Phoebe in brush pile by edge of river; 1 Plain Jtnouse and 1 Lark Sparrow in Cottonwoods; 1 Kill deer on a gravel bar by the stream. In the evening, went up to San Maggino for mail. On the way, saw & heard a
