Itinerary
July 26.
Laguna Ranch, San Benito Co., (contd.)
contd. Adenostoma. Three shot 2 Bell Sparrows.
Saw several more of the same species. Also
saw Bewick Wrens and Western Greackaters.
Heard Wren-kit, Calif. Thrasher and Spotted
Forshew but birds seem to be scarce. Went
back to my old stand at the water tank when I
shot a White-breasted Nuthatch in a large Valley
Oak. There were few birds. Then we went on
up the canyon back of the tank to the spring.
The spring is in the gulley bottom and has
a few bushes of gooseberry, Willow and
amelanchier around it with scrub-oak,
live oak and Blue oak nearby. The hill-
sides above are covered by dense chaparral
and hess. Then I shot 1 Bell Sparrow,
1 Plain Titmouse, 1 Wood Pewee and 1 Jerneo.
Also saw Bewick Wren, Western Greackater,
Calif. Jay, Chipping Sparrow?, and Black
Phoebe. Shot a Dove from a small Blue
Oak.
In the evening, sawa Roovill and
heard Horned Owl and Screed Owls.
July 27. This A.M. hunted from 5:30 - 8 through dense
chaparral, mainly Adenostoma and Scrub
oak. Followed along the ridge between our
camp and Lewis Creek drainage, waking
