July 18 of the following species: Bell Sparrow, 1; Chipping Sparrow, 3?; White-breasted Nuthatch,
1; Nuttall Woodpeckers, 1.
July 19. This A.M. hunted SE from camp mostly
around springs in a caƱon where there
was lots of scrub Oak and Blue Oak
nearby and with some Amelanchiers
and 1 willow in the creek bottom. Three
I shot: Junco, 2; Bell Sparrow, 2;
White-breasted Nuthatch, 1; Bewick Wren, 1; Plain
Titmouse, 1; Black-throated Gray Warbler, 1.
Johnson brought in a Lacey Woodpecker
evening.
saw 2 Band-tailed Pigeons today in
the oaks near camp.
July 20. This A.M. rode down with Johnson in the
Dodge to the lower end of the fields +
hunted back along the ridge on the SW
side of the valley. For about an hour, hunted
in nearly pure stand of large Black Oak.
Three shot 1 Brown Towhee and 3 Wood
Peckers. Also saw many Greatcatchers, Western
Bluebirds, Lark Sparrows; several Juncos,
Chipping Sparrows; Plain Titmouses, and
Calif. Woodpeckers, Calif. Jays; one White
breasted Nuthatch.
