Palmer 1936 Itinerary Laguna Ranch, San Benito Co., (cont'd.) July 18 of the following species: Bell Sparrow, 1; Chipping Sparrow, 3?; White-breasted Nuthatch, 1; Nuttall Woodpeckers, 1. July 19. This A.M. hunted SE from camp mostly around springs in a caƱon where there was lots of scrub Oak and Blue Oak nearby and with some Amelanchiers and 1 willow in the creek bottom. Three I shot: Junco, 2; Bell Sparrow, 2; White-breasted Nuthatch, 1; Bewick Wren, 1; Plain Titmouse, 1; Black-throated Gray Warbler, 1. Johnson brought in a Lacey Woodpecker evening. saw 2 Band-tailed Pigeons today in the oaks near camp. July 20. This A.M. rode down with Johnson in the Dodge to the lower end of the fields + hunted back along the ridge on the SW side of the valley. For about an hour, hunted in nearly pure stand of large Black Oak. Three shot 1 Brown Towhee and 3 Wood Peckers. Also saw many Greatcatchers, Western Bluebirds, Lark Sparrows; several Juncos, Chipping Sparrows; Plain Titmouses, and Calif. Woodpeckers, Calif. Jays; one White breasted Nuthatch.
