July 9 cont'd.
Panchoe Cr., 1200 ft., 2 mi. SW Panchoe (cont'd).
1 Ash-throated Flycatcher and 1 Western Kingbird in cottonwoods. Shot 2 Say Phacelia both on the creek bank in Saltbush near the hapline - Panchoe Creek, 1000 ft., 4 mds. E Panchoe San Benito Co., Calif. Also shot a Red-winged Blackbird here as it flew one upstream.
The last mile of this hunt was performed
in a rather heavy rain. Saw a Marsh Hawk flying
low over the hills.
Traps this evening held: Mus musculus,
2 (♂♀), Microtus californicus, 1 (?); Peromyscus
maniculatus, 1 (?) in 39 gen. sized mouse
traps in tulips and rushes. Added 20 mouse
+ 1 rat trap to the line. These set 15 paces
apart on gravelly + sandy second bottom by
low bushio + grass.
July 10 The creek rose about 8 in. last night and
covered many of the traps with silt. However,
carried in 39 gen. size mouse traps: Microtus
californicus, 2 (♂♀); Mus musculus, 2 (♂♀);
Peromyscus maniculatus 1 (?). 20 gen. sized
mouse and 1 rat trap on gravelly second
bottom caught: Peromyscus maniculatus, 8
(4♂, 4♀); Dipodomys lemmanni, 1 (♂). Took
On the way back to camp, saw a Prairie
in all traps. Falcon near the road.
In the afternoon, drove with Johnson back
to Panchoe, then over the road to Mercy
