July 5. The 65 mus. spec. mouse traps at 6 A.M. held
33 mammals of the following species: Dipodomys
curmanni, 18 (6♂, 12♀); Onychomys torridus,
4 (all ♀); Peromyscus maniculatus, 11 (6♂, 5♀).
Shot 2 Texas Nighthawks as they were
resting on bare ground between Atriplex
bushes.
About 3 P.M., drove E on the Mendota road
with Johnson. At the place where the road
just crosses Pancho Cr., found tule all
along the creek. Stopped there and hunted
about 1/2 hr. Shot 2 Redwinged Blackbirds
and saw several more. Johnson shot 1 Say
Phoebe and 1 Brewer Blackbird. The latter
to reported as being one of a mixed flock
of Redwings and Brewers.
Continued on up the road, stopping once
to try to shoot some Ammospermophilus,
to a divide. There we turned left (N) up the
ridge for about a mile. Stopped + set 50
mus. spec. mouse traps. Traps set 15-20 steps
apart on a ridge + down a gully on adobe
soil with very sparse, low vegetation.
