Itinerary
Pancho Cr., 2 mi. SE Pancho (cntd).
July 3. (contd.) Roadrunners and 8 Horned Larks in the
open fields.
Hunted Screech Owls from 8-10 P.M. Johnson
got one but I didn't see any.
July 4. About 1:30 This morning woke up & heard
at least 5 Screech Owls around camp. Started
out to find them but the flashlight gave out
before I saw even one.
From 5 - 7 AM hunted up the creek bottom
in the cottonwoods & willows. Around the
cast water, a short way S Wry camp were
many birds, especially Brewer Blackbirds,
Western Kingbirds, Killdeer, Bluebird and
Lark Sparrow. Beyond this in the dry creek
bed saw very few birds. Thus saw: Blue-
bird, English Sparrow, Flicker, Linnet,
Shrike, Grackle and Brewer Blackbird.
Shot 1 Bewick Wren and 2 Brewer Blackbirds.
In the evening, set 65 mus. spec. mousetraps
in a loop through dense, Tripley verniculate A.
Traps set 15-20 steps apart generally on loose,
somewhat sandy soil by the bushes. Saw many
Bullock Orioles, most of them apparently young
and several Texas Nighthawks in the bush.
On the way back to camp, saw a Wildcat in a
deep gulley cut back into the sharp adobe
