Palmer 1936 June 28 contd. Itinerary 2 mi. NNEW New Idria (cont'd.) and adenoostoma dense chaparral south of camp. 26. (Cock) When - Common around the sandstone cliffs. 27. Canyon When - Not common around the cliffs. One taken in an old adobe building. 28. Bewick When - A few seen around the small blue oak or heard in adenostoma, manzanita, scrub oak the dense chaparral south of camp. 29 Calif. Thrasher - Not common. In chaparral - adenostoma, manzanita, scrub oak, cleanothera, scrub blue oak - Also in the junipers. 30 Western Bluebird - In cottonwoods along the creek and around the barns and building. Fairly common in the blue oak. 31 Western Gnateater - Very few seen mostly in the blue oak a few in mixed adenostoma or juniper. 32 Calif. Shrike - Moderately common around the juniper - adenostoma association north of camp. 33 Western Meadowlarks - Only 3 or 4 seen. These were in the grainfields or grassland usually near the creek.
