Palmer 1936 Itinerary June 28 contd. 2 mi NW New Idria (cont'd.) Large boulder hanging boulders near the sandstone cliffs. 10. Horned Owl - Heard several nights at camp. Seen several times near the sandstone cliffs in the early morning commonly perching near the ground in dense junipers. 11. Poorwill - Johnson collected one in a little sandy bottomed gulley running through the grain field. Heard others there later. 12. White-throated Swift - About 12-15 seen in flight around the cliffs N of camp. 13. Anna Hummingbird - A few seen about tree tobacco plants along the creek & perched in cottonwood. 14. Nuttall Woodpecker - Not common in the cottonwoods, blueoaks & fruit trees growing the fields. 15. Say (hoche) - Several collected. Most commonly in lower branches of large blueoaks or cottonwoods or along fences in open fields. 16. Ash-throated Flycatcher - Fairly common in the junipers and a few in cottonwoods along the stream.
